The Outstanding Young Persons Award Program 2008 (TOYP) (formerly known as "Outstanding Young Canadians")

The Outstanding Young Person Award Program of JCI Halifax serves to recognize five individuals between the ages of 18 and 40 who exemplify the best attributes of the world's young people. Nominations are received in each of the five categories: Accomplishment, Achievement, Contribution, Innovation and Leadership.

The Outstanding Young Persons Award, formerly known as the Outstanding Young Canadian Awards & Vanier Awards, has had such past recipients as Wayne Gretzky, Hon. Jean Charest, Margaret Atwood, Liona Boyd, Rick Hansen, Dr. Roberta Bondar, Anne Murray and other well-known Canadians who have represented the heights of progress in all human endeavors. Many have gone on to even greater achievements. All have continued to serve humanity in a great variety of ways.

JCI Halifax will honor its Outstanding Young Persons of 2008 at an Awards Gala  (date and time to be announced soon). The ceremony will highlight each winner's career and provide a stage from which the honorees can challenge and inspire young people from the region. For each honoree, there will be an award presentation and an acceptance speech.

Honourees will be selected by a panel of distinguished judges. Up to five honourees will be selected from all nominations received, regardless of category entered. Honorees of the JCI Halifax OYP Awards will be submitted for consideration in the JCI Canada OYP Awards. The winners of the national program will be honoured during an awards gala at the JCI Canada National Convention.

Winners from each year are forwarded to Junior Chamber International for consideration in The Outstanding Young People of the World Awards.

This is a fantastic opportunity for us to recognize the best and brightest young people from across our country who exemplify the greatness we achieve right here in Canada. This is a great way for you to be recognized in supporting the future leaders of our country and ensure we give the encouragement and nurturing young people require to excel in our local communities and on the world stage. Together, your firm and JCI chapters across Canada can reveal the path for other young people to explore, develop and grow as leaders and entrepreneurs.
